Sadly, part of the mount showing the studio name has been cut off, but some of the address, 116 St James St, is still visible.

Example of a Kime postcard photo taken 1911
The company name "KIME," Photo. Newport, IW appears to be hand-typed,
as does the "1 4 10" where the stamp would normally go

My thanks to Ann Barrett for the above two photos.

The upper photo is of an unknown lady from the Newport/Cowes Wray family, while the lower photo is of Margaret Lavinia May Dale age 8 months (as annotated on the back) who was born in the last quarter of 1910.

My thanks to Martin Hodges for the above photo.

The photo is of Martin's great-grandfather William Benjamin Butler, and was possibly taken in the early 1900's.

Family History Ernest Alfred Kime was born c1874 in Lincoln. He is thought to have been the 8 year old Alfred Kime, son of Jonas & Emily Kime who were grocers and coal merchants at Fulbeck, Lincoln, in the 1881 census.

At the time of the 1901 census, Ernest was living in Newport along with his wife Frances (also from Lincolnshire) and their 3 month old daughter, Lily, who had been born in Newport. Ernest was described as a photographer in the census, and it is possible that he was working for John Long from whom he apparently took over the business c1900.

Ernest died at the age of 84 in February 1959 and was buried at Newport Fairlee Cemetery, alongside his wife, Frances, who had died two years earlier.

Further Notes It is probable that Ernest Kime took over the business at 116 Lower St James Street from photographer John Long c1900 who was previously working at that address.
