Isle of Wight
Places and People
The Isle of Wight has been home to my family for many generations. Although not an Islander myself, I have very close associations with this unique place and am a frequent visitor. Over the years I have amassed quite a bit of knowledge about the Island through my family history research, inherited collections of photos and other memorabilia, and would like to share some of this with you.
Nearly all the towns and villages on the Island appear in my family's history, but one place which is of special significance is the village of Wroxall. My family has lived in Wroxall for over 150 years and some of my closer relatives still live there today. In these pages I hope to present many photos of the village and its inhabitants and, possibly, include some brief historical notes. Quite understandably, much of my material relates to my own family's life in the village, but I will try to concentrate on presenting items that have wider appeal (for example, old views and school group photos) and, hopefully, will be of some help to other researchers.
It will take me quite a while to present all that I intend, so please look in occasionally to see what's new.
In the meantime, please follow the Wroxall link to see my initial offerings.
